Artist and psychoanalyst Anthony Graves will present the work of Camel Collective, his collaboration with artist Carla Herrera-Prats which was active from 2005–2020. Camel Collective’s works in video, sculpture, performance, and photography think through the subjects of collaboration and the often laborious production of sensation as they relate to contemporary labor and shared myths of cultural production. From philosophers to Foley artists, labor theorists to lighting designers, the work of the collective sought to bring together collaborators from a variety of often incongruent professions and backgrounds, and to provide occasion to question the disciplinary assumptions of knowledge and meaning.
Camel Collective is the name that artists Anthony Graves (US) and Carla Herrera-Prats (MX, d. 2019) worked under from 2005–2019. Together they exhibited internationally at museums and galleries including The Queens International 2018: Volumes; MUAC, Mexico City (2017); REDCAT Gallery, Los Angeles (2016); Trienal de Artes Frestas, Sesc, Sorocaba, Brazil (2015); the Bard Hessel Museum, Annendale-on-Hudson, New York (2014); Casa del Lago, Mexico City (2013); Trienal Poli/Gráfica de San Juan, Puerto Rico (2012); Mass MoCA, North Adams, Massachusetts (2011); and Aarhus Kunsthalle, Denmark (2010). They were recipients of numerous awards and grants including Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes, two Jumex Foundation Grants, and the Statens Kunstrad Danish Arts Council project grant. The presentation will include video screenings, images, and discussion.
