Ken Banta

Member of the Board since 2020. Founder and Principal of the Vanguard Group, which supports senior executives as they build high-performance organizations and take their leadership, and their teams, to higher levels. Vanguard helps top leaders develop a meaningful sense of purpose and culture that will deliver results for their organization—and catalyze change when needed.

Lucy Bruell

Member of the Board since 2020. Lucy Bruell is a journalist and filmmaker. She is the Editor-in-Chief of MedHum.org, a medical humanities review.  Her documentary, Oli Otya? Life and Loss in Rural Uganda, was an official selection at the Sedona International Film Festival, and she continues to produce educational programs in Africa.   A graduate of UC Berkeley and the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University, she is an Instructor in the Division of Medical Humanities at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine.

Jack Drescher, MD

Member of the Board since 2024. He trained at the Institute where he is a Training & Supervising Analyst. He is Past President of both the Group for Advancement of Psychiatry (GAP) and the New York County Psychiatric Society. He is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University and an Adjunct Professor at New York University’s Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. He is a 2022 recipient of the Mary S. Sigourney Award for his international work on gender and sexuality and a 2018 recipient of the American Psychiatric Association’s John Fryer Award.

Andrew Gerber, MD, Ph.D.

Member of the Board since 2020. Dr. Gerber is President and Medical Director of Silver Hill Hospital, an independent, not-for-profit psychiatric hospital that has been a standout among the top psychiatric hospitals in this country since its founding in 1931. He is a graduate of the Harvard Medical School and completed a NIMH-sponsored Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Columbia University. He is Associate Clinical Professor at the Yale School of Medicine/Child Study Center; Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Columbia University Medical Center; and Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences at University of Massachusetts/Amherst.

Tom Hennes

Tom Hennes is the founder of Thinc Design, a New York based, internationally recognized firm that has developed innovative and influential exhibition designs for museums, national memorials, aquariums, cultural attractions, and Olympic and World Expo pavilions in the United States and internationally. For nearly twenty years, he has worked within an evolving conception of Relational Design, a psychoanalytically-based approach toward shaping physical and social environments around open-ended human experience, learning, and growth. He has written extensively on experiential design and its interaction with psychoanalytic and group relations theory and has taught and lectured widely. 

Lenore Katkin, M.D.

Member of the Board since 1989. Dr. Katkin is a pediatrician who has served on governing boards of many major hospitals and medical centers.

Mary B. McRae, Ed.D. President

Mary B. McRae, Ed.D, is a psychologist in private practice. She also does coaching for managers and executives. She is a retired professor of Applied Psychology, New York University. Her scholarship involves a psychoanalytic and systemic study of authority and leadership in groups and organizations with a focus on issues of difference such as race, ethnicity, gender, culture, social class, and sexual identity.

Richard Pulik

Richard Pulik serves as Chief Financial Officer of Roivant Sciences, a biopharmaceutical company. He previously held senior leadership roles at Novartis, one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies, where he oversaw cancer drug development strategy and partnerships. Earlier in his career, he worked at several leading financial institutions advising healthcare companies. Mr. Pulik holds a B.S. in Finance from The Wharton School and a B.A. in Economics and International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania, and is passionate about delivering meaningful medicines to patients globally.
